New Category added to the Dr. Nathan Davis Awards Program October 3, 2017 AMA AMA 0 Since 1989, the American Medical Association (AMA) has been presenting the Dr. Nathan Davis Awards for Outstanding Government Service honoring career and elected government officials for their contributions. In order for an individual to be considered for an award they must have contributed significantly to the public health through elected or career government service, demonstrated outstanding leadership in his or her field, possesses high personal integrity, promoted the art and science of medicine via government service, and developed a special project that contributed to public health of a given community or special population. Receiving a Dr. Nathan Davis Award from the AMA is an honor that is held in high regard by all who have received the award. At this time, in an effort to recognize that individuals outside of government service and federation organizations also significantly contribute to the public health and promote the art and science of medicine, the AMA is introducing a new category to the Dr. Nathan Davis Awards program. The award will be presented to a private sector individual or organization that has: Contributed significantly to the public health by influencing public policy to promote the art and science of medicine; Demonstrated outstanding leadership in his/her/its field; Possesses high personal integrity Developed a special project or body of work that contributed to the public health of a given community or special population; and Significantly raised awareness and promoted a public health issue. We invite you to submit nominations for this new award category recognizing individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to improve health of the nation. Similar to the Dr. Nathan Davis Awards for Government Service, this award would only be presented if a nominee befitting the award is presented to the panel of judges. Federation organizations and staff are not eligible to receive this award. Nominees could include for example authors, humanitarians, philanthropists, reporters, policy institutes, or foundations.
